Weaving Remembrance of the Scottish Witch Hunts
Unknown Witch Art Memorial
The Uknown Witch Art Memorial is part of the Creative Coven's Weaving Creative Threads in Remembrance of the Scottish Witch Hunts. This project was born as a reaction to the personal pain I felt every time I came across witch trials where the accused did not even have a name. There are 625 unknown witches listed in the Scottish witch trial records. In some instances, it was recorded that a great many witches were executed on specific dates. Some of these names may have been lost to the annuals of time, but most were likely poor women who were deemed unworthy of having their names recorded in history.

This project aimed to give Scotland's unknown witches a face, where history had failed to give them a name. We give thanks to all the members of our group who embraced this important collaborative project and a special thanks to the artists who permitted their submissions to be used to create the prints below. The money raised will go towards our Witches Memorial Grove. This will be a living breathing memorial in the Caledonian forest, in memory of Scotland’s accused witches. The grove will not be a place you can visit, the trees will help to rewild Scotland in memory of those who suffered for the crime of witchcraft during the Scottish witch hunts.
